This is a type of Amethyst I have not seen since I first started offering crystals in 2017. To happen upon this material carved into a flame shape at the Tucson Gem Show, I absolutely had to bring it back to the shop! I hope you find this beauty as magical as I do 🤩
These unique and rare Amethsyt are mined in Brazil, and go by many names-"Black Amethyst" seems to be the main one used, followed by "Amethyst Cacoxenite" and "Super Seven". But what EXACTLY are these beauties? If you look closely, there is more to these beauties than just dark Amethyst-there are several other minerals that can be easily seen as well, including:
Amethyst: Purple
Geothite: Black
Smoky Quartz: Brown
Quartz: White
Lepidochrosite: Red
Cacoxenite: What looks to be "waves" or strikes of pink/brown
These 6 minerals are 6 of the 7 minerals seen in Super Seven crystals (only one missing is Rutile). When reading up on Super Seven, you will find that not all 7 minerals need to be included in order to be considered a "Super 7"-however, the name "Super Seven" is trademarked, and can only be used for crystals coming out of a specific mine in Brazil. I have also been told that these are actually polished Amethyst Cathedral Quartz-which would explain why they are so pricey! So I leave it to you to decide-whether they are “Black Amethyst" as held by common belief, Super Seven, Amethyst Cathedral Quartz, or view them as a different breed entirely. What I can tell you is that these crystals are AMAZING-I have multiple in my personal collection that I will never part with. However, their price tag is high up there.
I can guarantee that you will NOT be disappointed to have one of these gorgeous specimens in your collection!
